A Course In Miracles

Secret of God

return to "The Course" main-page:

God has no secrets. He does not lead you through a world of misery, waiting to tell you, at the journey's end, why He did this to you.

Editor's note: These brief comments of the Course need to win a prize for most remarkable, or maybe most counter-intuitive to popular understanding about God.

It’s fairly safe to say that a lot of people do think God has secrets. It’s “secret city” all the way with this mysterious God. And so we’re more than a little taken aback to find the Course asserting that “God has no secrets.”

But then the Course doubles down on its impertinence by declaring, far from Grandma’s bromide of “we’ll understand everything by-and-by when we get to heaven,” that we can know the mind of God, the plan of God, right now.

We smile, too, at the Course’s wry turn-of-phrase to describe our time on Earth, this “world of misery”: it’s something God “did” to us. Oh, that little thing – the endless nightmare on the “sorrowful planet.” We presume there was a very good reason to drag us through the mud like this.

But what does this mean, “God has no secrets”? How can we know the mind of God today? Sprinkled throughout the major topics of the Course, we’ve already been given the answer; which is this:

As we reduce the “static on the line” of the ego’s influence, as we align ourselves more and more with Universal Inspiration, we slowly begin to see things from God’s point of view.

It’s a straight-forward answer, but many will find it unsatisfying. Confusion here, however, stems from defending the ego’s domain.

One of the prime secrets revealed is that there is no reincarnation. There are dozens of “scientific evidence” tenets to support this claim, but the simplest point is “God has no secrets” – God is truth, God is light, which means that it is the very nature of God to engage in Self-revelation, forthcomingness, not hiding -- so we can know the mind of God, gradually, over time, by aligning ourselves with the divine essence. As the apostle John instructs, God will teach each one of us individually. If this is not happening, it's because we've granted the ego too much control over our minds.

And we can know that reincarnation is a hoax, countermanding natural law, because the spiritual mind finds it to be something repulsive.
