Elenchus. I’m not as angry as I was.

Kairissi. (softly) What you said about me, unfortunately, is true.

E. What I said might be somewhat true, or was true, but my words had a hard edge to them.

K. You said that you luxuriated in your anger. I know I've done the same. But I don’t want to be that way anymore. I want to change now. I want to be better. I don’t want anger and touchiness running my life anymore. I want that happy life with you so much, Ellus Dear, and I’m willing to do whatever’s required to make it happen.

E. (sighing)

K. As I say these words, I’m suddenly given an insight – that this is why God made us Twin Souls. We don’t really try so hard to change and do better and grow spiritually just for ourselves; not the way we should. But I will work as hard as I have to, to become a better person, just to be with you.

E. The author has spent many years and four long books getting at the meaning and purpose of Twin Soul love -- but you’ve done it pretty well in a couple of sentences.

Elenchus. A long time ago, after I’d begun to awaken to you, I went to visit a psychic. I didn’t ask her any questions, I just hoped she’d receive something from the Guides for me about you.

Kairissi. (softly) What happened?

E. She said, “There’s something in the back of your mind that you never talk about.”

K. Did she know what this was?

E. No. She was just relaying a message.

K. What happened next?

E. She said, “Things are not going the way you want right now, but they” – meaning, the Spirit Guides – “want you to know that time is on your side.”

K. Did you feel that this message was about me?

E. I immediately knew it was about you. But here’s what’s funny. I went there for the express purpose of helping myself through my constant despair of losing you – but, when I actually did get a message about you, my instant reaction was to bristle and to be defensive.

K. You felt violated. “How did they get inside my head to know that?”

E. It was like that. And part of me didn’t appreciate them walking through a locked door. But later I realized I’d been given some very encouraging advice.

K. That everything would work out for us.

E. Yes. But what I didn’t know was that this communication had a lot more to it.

K. What do you mean, Ellus?

E. Some years later I was thinking about this “time is on your side” message, and the famous song related to it, and suddenly I was hit with an important idea.

synecdoche

E. It occurred to me, what if that song title is a synecdoche? That’s not a word I often use, but it means “the part represents the whole.” What if the title is just the “tip of the iceberg," and what if the rest of the song was meant to offer a message, as well?

K. That’s interesting.

‘cause I got the real love, the kind that you need

E. I looked at the lyrics and, sure enough, it seemed to be speaking to me. The song is about a guy who’s lost a girl. For whatever reason, they fell apart, and she’s hell bent to leave him behind. He consoles himself with, “she’ll come running back, ‘cause I got the real love, the kind that you need.” And when I saw that, I knew I’d see you again, and I knew that the Guides had given me the whole song as a message of encouragement.

K. (softly) Elenchus, this is all so true... being mad at someone is one thing, but - if he "has the real love, the kind that you need", even to live your life, or eternal life, well then, where can you go? - unless you enjoy destroying yourself with abject misery and insanity-of-despair. You can get "the real love" from only one person, so there are no other options. Lovers, eventually, have to repent of their "sins against holy romance," and against each other, and they absolutely have to come to back to each other... and so, for the aggrieved party, the perfect operative phrase here is, "time is on my side."

E. (deeply sighing)

E. Strangely, the message even yet wasn’t over for me. I did a little investigating and discovered that “Time Is On My Side” was the Stones’ big debut song on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964.

"Time Is On My Side"

time is on my side, yes it is, time is on my side, yes it is, now you always say, that you want to be free, but you'll come running back (said you would baby), you'll come running back (I said so many times before), you'll come running back to me, oh, time is on my side, yes it is, time is on my side, yes it is, you're searching for good times, but just wait and see, you'll come running back (I won't have to worry no more), you'll come running back (spend the rest of my life with you, baby), you'll come running back to me, go ahead, go ahead and light up the town, and baby, do everything your heart desires, remember, I'll always be around, and I know, I know, like I told you so many times before, you're gonna come back, baby, cause I know you're gonna come back knocking, yeah, knocking right on my door, yes, yes, well, time is on my side, yes it is, time is on my side, yes it is, cause I got the real love, the kind that you need, you'll come running back (said you would, baby), you'll come running back (I always said you would), you'll come running back (I won't have to worry no more), yes time, time, time is on my side, yes it is, time, time, time is on my side, yes it is, oh, time, time, time is on my side, yes it is, I said, time, time, time is on my side, yes it is, oh, time, time, time is on my side, yeah, time, time, time is on my side…

“Time Is On My Side” had only recently begun climbing on the US pop charts when The Rolling Stones were invited to perform on the Ed Sullivan Show, Sunday, October 25, 1964. Their engaging performance that night, and their solid hit, would put them firmly on the map of rock music stardom.

E. Let me preface what I’m about to say with a reference to the “Course In Miracles.” One of its topics is about how God teaches us directly; moreover, when we’re taught, the instruction from Divinity, is “intensely personal.” This phrase might not mean too much, but when you realize some bit of new information has your name on it, it can knock your socks off. What I’ve said here already would be more than enough to knock socks off, but the Guides weren’t done with the “intensely personal.” Can you guess what I’m thinking of?

K. Tell me.

E. The date, October 25, 1964, is very close to that seminal day in our lives; that hinge of history which would change the entire course of our future in this world.

K. (very softly) Yes… of course…

E. Is it just coincidence that October 25, 1964 and “Time Is On My Side” should be so auspiciously connected? Let me just say that, in this “intensely personal” instruction, I wouldn’t expect anyone else to be moved by this juxtapositioning of items. To others, it will all seem too unlikely.

K. But that’s why the instruction from God is called “intensely personal” – it’s just for us; and others will have to seek for their own private tutoring from God.

at first I was angry

Star Trek: Voyager (1996), episode "Tuvix"

Kes: “He came to see me today.”

Captain: "Oh?"

Kes: "He said... that he loves me."

Captain: “I suppose I can see how that's possible."

Kes: “I wasn't sure what to say -- at first, I was angry..."
