Word Gems
exploring self-realization, sacred personhood, and full humanity
Every word of God is pure.
It is the word of God living in us.

Every word of God is pure.
* Deuteronomy 8:3 "That he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live."
* Proverbs 30:5 "Every word of God is pure."
Some of the writers of the Bible experienced authentic encounter with God. They learned, in their daily lives, as we can learn today, that "every word of God is pure."
Their testimony was written down for later generations. However, these writings are just signposts directing us to the reality.
Somewhere along the line people started worshiping the signpost and forgot about the reality!
This is where we are today. Most people think that a writing about "the word of God" is the word of God!
How did this confusion become widespread?
Jesus promised "the Spirit of truth"; John spoke of the "anointing" that would "live in us, teaching us all things"; Paul preached "living in the Spirit" and the "mind of Christ" formed in us.
And yet despite all this emphasis on the inner life, the "still small voice," the "artesian spring effortlessly bubbling up eternal life," the modern Church is primarily led by those who know nothing of this intuitive way. They subscribe to a virtual materialistic view of God and life - becoming, what Leonard Cohen poetically referred to as...

Leonard Cohen, Hallelujah
Baby, I've seen your flag on the marble arch, But love is not a victory march, it's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah,
Well there was a time when you let me know, What's really going on below, But now you never show it to me, do you?
I did my best, it wasn't much, I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch...

When we can't "feel," when we know nothing of the private guidance, the "word of God living within," then, we rely on "touch," that is, on a materialistic negotiating of life and the world.
Adrian Smith, J.D.
Thomas Paine regarded religion as yet another form of tyranny but one which, unlike the other forms, seeks to pursue us beyond the grave... Paine rightly points out there is no such thing as a second-hand revelation. “It is a contradiction in terms and ideas, to call anything a revelation which comes to us at second hand, either verbally or in writing. Revelation is necessarily limited to the first communication.” After that it is merely an account of something which only the original recipient may feel obliged to believe in...
An unsubstantiated claim made by someone else is considered hearsay but when reported by others it is hearsay upon hearsay and you cannot put your faith in that kind of evidence. Not one word of the New Testament was written by Jesus Christ himself. If that was to be the primary mode of communication with the Divine, he was strangely unconcerned with it. He did not commit to any scribe the task of record keeping. What we know of him was written decades later by people who never knew him. The only thing he ever wrote down, according to the record, was written in sand.
Lloyd M. Graham said: "Why do world saviours never write books? The answer is simple - world saviours don't make books, because books make them. World saviours are the creations of mythologists, not historians; of occultists, not literalists" ... Why would we search any book to find out what God says when by going within we may access the Divine directly?

do not confuse the sign-marker for the destination; please, do not eat the menu, I can't take you anywhere...
A dessert menu, no matter how tempting, is just print on paper; not very satisfying compared to the real death-by-chocolate. And the latest steamy romance novel, no matter how spicy and explicit, almost immediately avails little, providing no warmth on a cold winter's night or life's journey; is an exceedingly poor substitute for authentic erotic love.
And even if there were such a thing as "the God of the Universe writing books," which is an absurdity, those printed words, even "pure words of God," would be as rewarding as eating a dessert menu. Words are just words, no matter the source, and cannot give you what you want. God-talk cannot give you what you want; mega-institutions exist to offer God-talk, but they cannot give you what you want. Do not confuse words, mere sign-markers, with the destination, the reality. Do not confuse words and talk about God with a genuine encounter with God; such empty notion is as preposterous as reading a romance novel and thinking we've found true love. Good luck to us with that.
how can we come to know the "word of God" within
All the great mystic-teachers, and the very-wise on the other side, speak of God within, of accessing God as part of our own sacred consciousness.
One who does a good job explaining how to access the divine inner life is Eckhart Tolle. His sign-markers are worth considering:
the "word of God" will not come as whispering to the ear, will not be audible
- Editor's note: If you are very psychic, you might hear voices in your head, as my friend Linda does. But these are the voices of Spirit Guides, not God.
The "word of God" is a sense, a perception of light, an awareness of right or wrong.
I like to think of it as a "Geiger counter." The "word of God" will let you know where the positive or negative energy is. You'll be able to feel it, you'll get a sense of it.
there's an inverted application of the "word of God"; it's the sense and perception of fear and neediness issued by the Small Ego that's led us all of our lives - by becoming aware of this untoward process, we can begin to get an idea of the right way of doing things
We have to learn how to do this. Since we were kids, we've been led around by the "false self," the Small Ego. Fear and "I don't have enough" is the unspoken "word" of the Small Ego. We must become aware of this competing "word" in our lives.
what does it mean that "every word of God is pure"
We will need to learn how to access and respond to one's soul-energy, our link to God, pulsating at the center of being. It's always been there. But we haven't been listening too well. The "word of God" has been muffled by "static on the line" of the Small Ego.
But we can get the hang of this; and when we do, the "word of God" will offer a sense of right or wrong about everything. And it will never, ever lead us astray - and that's why "every word of God is pure."
And, remarkably, just as the "word" of the Small Ego invariably leads us into more suffering and chaos, the "pure word" of God always leads us toward more harmony, peace, and joy.
Even though "God's word is pure," this doesn't mean that we won't make mistakes; especially, in the beginning. We'll need to learn how to apply, with wise decisions, the ensuing sense of right and wrong. We must learn like little children. It will take some time. But, as we will discover, sometimes in retrospect, the energy of the "word of God" will never lead us astray.
This "word of God within" is meant to be our "free-hands guidance system" for the next million years and beyond - a secret-garden of communication with God.
See the many quotations from afterlife sources emphasizing how important it is for us to learn of the inner guidance system, the "word of God" within our deepest persons.
Editor's last word:
The "word of God within us" speaks to a personal encounter with God, not just mental concepts or information about God.
May I direct you to the "Editor's last word" on the "Believe: 1-Minute Essay"? Carl Jung spoke of trusting in and building our lives upon a personal experience with God, as opposed to Big Religion's dire commands to "believe in one, true doctrines." You'll want to add and compare the discussion there with the material here.
