Quantum Mechanics

Kairissi and Elenchus

Summary Statement III, Virtual Reality

Kairissi. The concept of virtual reality isn’t what many people might suspect. It’s not living in the “matrix.” And it’s not a dream-world or a fairy-land.

Elenchus. Then, what would you say?

K. To say it's a computer game, a computer simulation, can be helpful to our understanding, but the focus on computers can also become a limiting prison for the mind. There is no Super-Computer Programmer in another dimension sitting in front of a screen and playing a game with us as the elves and soldiers. That’s not how it is.

E. We’ve had computers only since about 80 years ago. Before that time, certain aspects of Universal Consciousness were harder to understand. They’re still hard to understand, but the computer has given us a new way of thinking about consciousness and the universe.

K. What we need to keep in mind is that the computer game is just an analogy here. All analogies break down if we press them too hard, and we can run ourselves aground rather quickly if we try to take the similitude too far.

E. To claim that we’re the elves and soldiers in a computer game creates an impression that we’re mindless automatons at the mercy of some Big Guy running the joy-stick. And that’s not it at all.

K. We need to re-craft all this. Get rid of the computer for our explanation; or, at least, limit the use of this image. Part of what we need to do to make sense of what we call “reality” is to keep in mind what we’ve learned from Spirit Guides on the other side.

E. And let’s quickly review that: We come to this world to individuate, to become persons in our own right; not necessarily “good” persons immediately – most people don’t achieve that better status during their “tour of duty” here – but, as a first step, just to become persons. See the related article.

the purpose of the brain is to filter out, from universal consciousness, anything not correlating with the body’s perspective; in this ‘step-down transformer’ process, separate egos, with separate personal identities, emerge

Dr. Bernardo Kastrup, PhD philosophy, PhD computer science, for many years worked at CERN, the large hadron collider in Geneva.

“… the function of the brain is to localize consciousness, pinning it to the space-time reference point implied by the physical body. In doing so, the brain modulates conscious perception in accordance with the perspective of the body.

a brain that filters implies the existence of unbound mind, a universal consciousness

"When not subject to this localization and modulation mechanism, mind is unbound: it entails consciousness of all there is across space, time, and perhaps beyond. Therefore, by localizing mind, the brain also ‘filters out’ of consciousness anything that is not correlated with the body’s perspective… like a radio receiver selecting [a particular station], among the variety [with] all other stations being filtered out and never reaching the consciousness of the listener…

"[T]he filter hypothesis implies that consciousness, in its unfiltered state, is unbound. As such, consciousness must be fundamentally unitary and non-individualized, for separateness and individualization entail boundaries.

Editor’s note: Father Benson from the afterlife speaks of a being, formerly mortal, five billion years old, so advanced as to enjoy awareness of all life-forms in the universe; in this, we see the future of the ‘unfiltered’ mind. Read More on the “500 hundred tape-recorded messages from the other side” page. Editor’s note: There may be those, still in this world, with powers of expanded mind, so extensive, that a certain far-flung awareness of items in the universe may exist right now. Consider the advanced shamans of the South American Kogi people. They know things that escape the rest of us. See the inset-box.

the filtering brain creates the illusion of separateness, of disconnected personal egos

"The emergence of multiple, separate and different conscious perspectives or egos, is a consequence of the filtering and localization process: different egos, entailing different perspectives on space-time, retain awareness of different subsets of all potential subjective experiences, the rest being filtered out. It is the difference across subsets that give each ego its idiosyncratic vantage point, personal history, and sense of personal identity.

Editor’s note: A brain designed to filter, and reduce to a trickle, experience does not substantively support a theory of reincarnation which exalts much experience. We do not come to this planet to gain experience, as such, but to individualize, to transform one’s tiny sub-set of universal consciousness into a personal ego. With this, we become ready for what comes next in the afterlife, even if we are not yet “good” persons, which can be accomplished later, but only after one becomes a person in one’s own right. Read More on this need for individualization.

"The subjective experiences that are filtered out become the so-called ‘unconscious’ mind of the respective ego. Since each ego allows in only an infinitesimally small part of all potential experiences … the ‘unconscious’ minds of different egos will differ only minimally… As such, the filter hypothesis, unlike materialism, predicts the existence of a ‘collective unconscious’; a shared repository of potential experiences that far transcends mere genetic predispositions of a species…

the likely origin of the mystical experience

"[A]nd most importantly, the filter hypothesis predicts that one can have experiences that do not correlate with one’s brain states. Since here the brain is seen merely as a mechanism for filtering out experience … when this [filtering] mechanism is interfered with so as to be partially or temporarily deactivated, one’s subjective experience could delocalize, expand beyond the body in time and space, and perhaps even beyond time and space [giving rise to what is called the mystical experience]…”

K. And what are we doing all this for?

E. We’re preparing for “what comes next.” There are an infinite number of classrooms to come, any number of worlds and dimensions, in which to enjoy ourselves, and to grow up into our destined capacities as sons and daughters of God.

K. It’s interesting that, as we’ve learned from QM, only consciousness, only Universal Consciousness, is real. It’s the ground of all existence. And this principle is true, not just for the Earth world, but “all the way up the ladder,” we might say. No matter where we live in the future, a million years from now, in some part of the universe, or wherever, our environment will issue as derivative of Universal Consciousness. So, in that sense, all future worlds, including “terra,” are worlds of illusion.

E. Because only Universal Consciousness is real.

K. That’s it. So, it’s no big deal to say that our Earth experience is “illusion” or “virtual” or the like, because every world will always be categorized this way – because only Consciousness is real. And let’s just quickly remind ourselves, in all of those worlds, the ground we walk on will be solid, tables will have hard surfaces, and the birds will still sing in trees. All this, even though, whatever the world, it will be a world of illusion.

E. So, we rest easier now when we hear that our Earth world is a “virtual reality” world. They all are.

K. But let’s talk about the meaning of this. Matter of the Earth world vibrates at a certain rate, is hard to the touch because of electrical force-fields engendered by atoms. But the matter constituting Summerland is not so different, just of a higher grade, a more rapid vibrational essence, and all things there, as well, are solid enough, for those living in those worlds. This principle holds true all the way up the line.

E. And QM tells us that, if we drill down into matter, it all disappears into a nothingness; just a mass of waves forms.

K. Now, that’s the real reason for “virtual reality.” It all seems solid enough but then where does it go when we go deeper? Well, it was never “really there” in the first place, it just seemed to be solid.

E. Sounds “virtual” to me.

K. And, as we say, this is how it is in all forthcoming worlds.

E. What's really going on with all this insubstantiality? Explain it to us, Kriss.

K. I think it’s like this. The whole universe, plus all coming worlds in “higher” dimensions, serve as our “classroom.” We’ll always be enjoying new experiences, new places to go and see, new things to study and marvel at. There’ll be no end to this. Dr. Bohm agreed with his view of endless and unlimited layers to the “implicate order.”

E. QM tells us that matter is responsive to one’s individual consciousness. We mold it; increasingly so as we move to higher worlds. This matter is perfect “play-dough” for our searchings, adventures, investigations, exploits, and all manner of exploration.

K. I like what was said about how the universe is like a “computer display screen.” Now, it’s not really a computer screen, that’s just a manner of speaking by those who’ve become accustomed to the modern computer. But there are similarities. A computer screen is a finely organized collection of dots, and so is the matter of our world: particles, with space between them. But, then, they’re not really particles as we look closer, are they, but, instead, just vibrational wave-forms. So, what we see as we look out at our world is not so inappropriately called a “computer screen.” But don’t let that scare us, it’s just an analogy.

E. Nobody in the “matrix” is gonna pull our plug.

K. No, not really. On the other hand, what we see around us is not what it appears to be. It looks solid enough, but don’t drill down too far or the illusion will be scuttled.

E. I’d like to offer a final word here about us as “elves and soldiers” in the computer game. Our bodies are made of matter, so, in that sense, we’re like the elves and the soldier, but we’re also like the Super-Computer Programmer “sitting in front of the screen.” This is because we – you, and I, and all us – in our minds and essential beings, are linked to Universal Consciousness. That’s who we really are. We’re not this flesh-and-blood body primarily. We’re really part of “upper management” that’s running the “matrix.”
