[lying in bed]

K. (softly) I suppose we won’t be able to be married there.

E. Hardly, Dear. We’ll be lucky even to recognize each other.

K. Isn’t it strange, Ellus? – you’re going to see me but not even know
who I am.

E. Just say, “Hey, buddy, do you believe in love at first sight? – or do I have to walk by you again?”

K. (laughing)

E. It’ll be like living in disguise … with a secret identity.

K. That is rather disconcerting, isn’t it.

E. The small ego will blind us by injecting every thought with an element
of self-interest.

K. How strange for two to meet, but not really meet – it would just be
two egos colliding, and they’d never really know the true person.

E. It’s like… the ego keeps people in little boxes, as it defends itself, looks out for itself.

K. Everyone is kept separate and apart. And Dearest… what about us right now? … how much of the “real person” has each of us met?
